Founding a city is an act that probably none of us will ever take part in. It is not easy to enter the minds of ancient visionary founders, but if we clear the view of everything that is a city … there is nothing left but a river, winding through the primordial forests of the Po Valley, and a single hill-refuge from which to orient oneself: here’s the Colle di San Pietro, the Sacred Mountain in the destiny of Verona.
An ascension by funicular will take us to the place in Verona where it all began: from here, we will reconstruct the sacred project that guided the founders of the city, a plot revealed by the brilliant intuitions of a still little known archeologist.
Not only an “ascension” however, but also a sort of descent into the mysteries perpetrated by a city elite, between propitiatory rites and pagan-barbarian cults … up to the “final clash”, in the meanders of the Veronese Middle Ages, between gray eminences, inquisitor popes and – of course – the templar order.
Abstract
The visit will begin with the ascent by funicular to the terrace of the Colle di San Pietro; the itinerary will almost always remain “in height”, touching the ruins of the ancient Castle, the symbolic Fontana del Ferro, the district of San Giovanni in Valle with its solar and aquatic meanings, and the eastern side of the valley, with its memories linked to the “Veronese Jerusalem” and the Templars.
