{"id":1538,"date":"2022-11-19T21:53:19","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T20:53:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bestveronaguides.it\/the-jewish-community-in-the-heart-of-verona\/"},"modified":"2022-12-03T15:27:27","modified_gmt":"2022-12-03T14:27:27","slug":"the-jewish-community-in-the-heart-of-verona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bestveronaguides.it\/en\/the-jewish-community-in-the-heart-of-verona\/","title":{"rendered":"The jewish community in the heart of Verona"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The houses of the Jewish population who, since the 5<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">th<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> century in a\u00a0discontinuous way, following the chapters of the local and international events, lived here, were close to the economical area of Piazza Erbe, but in peripheral streets.<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">During the Serenissima Republic dominion, in 1604, the <\/span><strong><span lang=\"en-US\">ghetto<\/span><\/strong><span lang=\"en-US\"> was established. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Sephardi and Ashkenazi communities lived together, with two different oratories, no more existing. The new <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Synagogue <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">was inaugurated in 1929 and appears with its brilliant and elegant facade in a widening resulting form the demolitions which took place in the beginning of the last century. We walk in dark narrow streets, then enjoy the harmonious view of the high houses facing Piazza Erbe, witnesses of the daily life of this little community.
