AVAILABLE IN LANGUAGES:

The houses of the Jewish population who, since the 5th century in a discontinuous way, following the chapters of the local and international events, lived here, were close to the economical area of Piazza Erbe, but in peripheral streets. During the Serenissima Republic dominion, in 1604, the ghetto was established. Sephardi and Ashkenazi communities lived together, with two different oratories, no more existing. The new Synagogue was inaugurated in 1929 and appears with its brilliant and elegant facade in a widening resulting form the demolitions which took place in the beginning of the last century. We walk in dark narrow streets, then enjoy the harmonious view of the high houses facing Piazza Erbe, witnesses of the daily life of this little community. The visit to the Synagogue and the story of the latest events, up to the Racial laws and the Community’s life today, complete our tour.
