The museum is located in a deconsecrated monastery and has many visitors eager to have a look at Juliet’s tomb which is located in an underground crypt. A visit is worthwhile to understand why Verona was called ‘urbs picta’, i.e. ‘the painted city’.
Verona was already rich in the fourteenth century, at the time of the Della Scala dinasty and this wealth was "advertised", with wall paintings in churches, on palaces and this tradition continued in the '500 and '600 because it was fashionable and testified to its status.
