The opera was born in the 16th century in Florence and throughout the centuries has become the style that distinguishes the italian music worldwide.
Verona and the Opera have a strong connection and from the beginning of the 20th century, during the summer months, in the city you can breath the air of bel canto. Walking along the small backstreets in downtown, sometimes, from a window you can listen to a singer rehearsing for the role in the Arena. The Opera Festival of Verona has made it famous all over the world as well as the story of Romeo and Juliet.
More than a century long is the history of the Festival, that was born in 1913 from the idea of the opera singer Giovanni Zenatello and became the most important cultural event in the city.
The opera season takes place in the framework of the Arena, a building with 2000 years of history on its shoulders and born for cruel, violent games, which becomes the largest open-air Opera House in the world.
